a blast from the past

This week has been so dreary. It's rainy and cold and almost April. South Carolina shouldn't be like this. So today I give you a fun flashback...us in college before a football game.

a baby shower

This past weekend I had the privelidge of co-hosting a baby shower for my friend Leah. She is having twin boys and is due in the next two months! It was such a fun shower. We hosted a brunch (because who doesn't like breakfast food?). We can't wait to meet these two little boys!

Today I am craving...

...these Tiramisu Cupcakes, but after going to the doctor this week and learning I need to eat a little healthier, I will hold off. However, I plan to find a special occassion to make these soon. Any special occassions I don't know about?

24 weeks + pollen is killing me

I was feeling good until this past Monday night and allergies took over. Its a bad combination to drink lots of fluids to help wash out all the effects this pollen brings on and to be pregnant and have to pee a million times a day anyways. I have tried to be medicine free pretty much this entire pregnancy, but I figure if it comes down to either taking medicine or being miserable and not sleeping, I'll take the medicine. Here's for hoping it helps!

Besides allergies, I'm feeling great. I feel like I am getting bigger by the second which is cool because I can feel baby girl so much more now but I know at some point I will want to go back in the other direction. Glen has finally felt her move now too, and when she is kicking really strong you can see my stomach move!

I already finished registering. Although there will be no showers until May, I wanted to go ahead and get that part finished! It was a bit overwhelming! There is so much stuff you could buy for a baby. I know so much of it you won't need, but we are new to this. We really have no clue. So Glen and I made decisions on all the big stuff and decorating type stuff, and then I took a mom friend with me to help with all the "technical" stuff. She was so helpful. Thanks Shari!

Lunch date

Glen had the day off yesterday. So, he picked my up from work, and we went a on little lunch date to a place downtown called Cafe Strudel. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile and it didn't disappoint. It looks and feels like a little hole in the wall- just my kind of place. I had the Lowcountry BLT wrap with Loaded Baked Potato Salad, and Glen had the Cuban with Pasta Salad. It was delish. I can't wait to go back for a breakfast date!

York Peppermint Brownies

I saw a blog the other day about brownies with York Peppermint Patties in honor of St. Patrick's day. I decided to skip the homemade brownie part and just try boxed brownies stuffed with peppermint patties. If you like mint and chocolate you should try these with a glass of milk. They were super easy but a fun twist on just plain brownies.

Food Driven?

Have I ever told you how much I love food? I especially like going out to eat. I love fancy restaurants and trying new things.

I really want to try the Edisto Burger which has goat cheese and grape jelly on it from Pawley's Front Porch (one of our new favorite burger places). Yes goat cheese and grape jelly. Yes its weird but they wouldn't put it on the menu if it wasn't good. Right? Well I have yet to try it since it has said goat cheese and since unpasterized goat cheese is a no go in pregnancy and since I don't want to be that person who makes her waitress go back to the kitchen to ask if the goat cheese is pasterized I am holding off. As soon as we go there after baby comes that is what I am getting!

We planned our honeymoon around where we were eating that day. Some people go on awesome adventures or go see the sights. We planned where we were eating, and since we honeymooned in Savannah and Charleston we had some really good picks!

Glen knows me, and I am sure that's why last night when I told him what I was going to order at this restaurant in Charleston on a trip I am taking with our youth group girls roughly 7 weeks from now he didn't think it was odd. That's right people I know what I am going to eat at dinner 7 weeks from now and am so excited about it. A rueben and she-crab soup.

Cheddar Herb Biscuits

I have been waiting to make these biscuits, but I knew I would eat more than my share of them so I wanted to wait till we had a lighter, healthier dinner to go with them. Sunday night we finally grilled some chicken for a grilled chicken salad. This is something we had put off for quite a while because we have been busy or it got to cold at night. Well, yesterday was perfect. It stayed light outside longer and the temperature was just right. We spent practically the whole day with our doors open. I missed the grill. I am not sure if this chicken was especially exceptional or maybe its just been that long since we grilled something.

I only made the bread part of the biscuits not the topping. I also made 12 full biscuits instead of the mini ones. We added a bit of butter in between each biscuit, and it hit the spot. These would be phenomenal with a little bit of ham in between. I plan to try that later this week!

a bag

I really like flamingos. I have even tenatively decided that it would be awesome for Baby Girl to be a flamingo for Halloween this year or maybe just when I want to dress her up. I found this bag in the new Kate Spade summer collection. Too bad it costs $325.

just for fun

Glen and I don't take a lot of pictures together. Maybe its because they never turn out well when we take them ourselves. I guess we need to get in the habit of using the tripod. This one turned out fun, and after taking all my belly shots, I think I look a lot better in pictures that aren't by myself.

22 weeks + crib

So last week I posted about how great I was feeling. Then came the weekend. Friday afternoon I did something to my back {pulled a muscle, injured a nerve, not really sure what}. So pretty much all weekend I layed on the couch doing nothing. Although what I really wanted to do was go look at baby stuff for Baby Girl Scogin. I am glad to report that I am feeling much better and just have the minor pregnancy aches that are to be expected. So here we are at 22 weeks...getting much bigger in my opinion. I am not sure that I will keep up the weekly picture and update because let's be honest a picture of me every week with slightly the same size belly isn't super exciting, but I wanted to post this week to say a BIG THANKS to our friends Bridget and David for letting us use their crib. We put it together tonight and now I feel like the room is turning into a nursery!

A letter from Cosmo

dear humans that live in MY house,

Thank you for letting me out every morning when I stand beside the door in the kitchen and meow as loud as I can. I wouldn't have to meow that loud if you would attend to me quicker though. Also, you are kind of crowding my sleep space at night so if you could move your pillows apart a couple more inches I would appreciate it. Thank you for the taste of chinese food the other night. Please feed me that every day. Also, I am so much happier now that I don't have that collar on and you can scratch me so much better. If I were you I wouldn't go looking for it. You will never find it. Plus now that I don't wear that dorky thing with the tag that has my name on it I am much cooler according to the other neighborhood cats.

sincerely,

collarless Cosmo

Reality sets in

I am not sure why reality is just setting in. We signed up for a Childbirth Preparation Class at the hospital, checked out 4 baby books at the library, and received our first baby presents from my mom. Honestly the kicker was the baby clothes. It's crazy to think our baby will be so tiny and that we are responsible for that little life. I will be dressing our little girl in these clothes in just a little over 4 months! It can be a little overwhelming, but I know with support from each other and our trust that God is taking care of us and that He is in control that we will be okay.

21 weeks

I am officially 21 weeks! It feels good to be past the halfway point. I am feeling so good these days. I am feeling baby girl even more now, and let me tell you she's a strong girl. I don't know what it's going to be like when she is almost full grown, and there is no more space in there. In terms of food, I love fruit. I have to limit myself on how much I eat. There is not much I don't like at this point except red sauce. I like pizza but spaghetti or any other pasta with red sauce is less than appealing. I would also like to report that I resisted buying sour patch kids a couple of weeks ago and have not had them since. Although, they might be a nice little easter basket gift if I do say so myself.

White Chicken Enchiladas

This past Monday I tried a new recipe, the Pioneer Woman's White Chicken Enchiladas. This is the first time that I have ever made enchiladas, and it was super easy. It would be a good dish to make for company and it would be easy enough to make 2 cassarole pans for a large crowd. Since I am not loving red sauce foods right now, these really hit the spot with the white sauce. My only complaint would be that they were a bit too saucy, but putting them on a bed of rice or just using less sauce would fix the problem. Next time I think I am going to try adding black beans to the chicken mixture so we won't have to use as much meat.

No more lime green

We have been in our house for almost three years now and haven't painted one wall until this past weekend. The whole house is a very light neutral beige color except for what was the baby's room (for the people who lived there before us). That room was lime green and had glow in the dark stars on the ceiling. We had been using it for our guest room and had never gotten around to painting it or taking down those glow in the dark stars (although one would fall down on its own every 1 or 2 months). I am glad to report there is no more lime green. Don't get me wrong. I like lime green, just as an accent color not on all the walls. It was a bit overwhelming. We decided on a neutral brown. Yes, its a little unconventional. One might think with a girl we would choose pink or at least a gender neutral pastel yellow or green, but we went with brown. I forget the name of the color, but I am sure its fawn or latte or milk chocolate or something of the sort. I love it and can't wait till we get furniture in there and decorations up. We plan to do some of our own canvas art to hang up, and we still need to paint the changing table. We have 19 weeks left, but I am still itching to get this project going!

A good day

I am having one of those days, a good day that is. Maybe it was yesterday coupled with some good things today. I love rainstorms, and we had quite a rainstorm last night. For whatever reason, I love them. They make me feel calm. I walked Abby with a friend yesterday for an hour. AN HOUR! After not really excercising and instead taking Abby to the dog park while I stand there and Abby runs around, it felt good. My feet were hurting a bit afterwards, but today I woke up feeling great! I made a new dish last night. Pictures/post on the Pioneer Woman's White Chicken Enchiladas will be coming soon. This morning I got a free cup of coffee from starbucks (decaf of course), and I might be stopping by krispy kreme to get a free donut this afternoon. My office finally feels good in terms of temperature. The A/C has been out and yesterday was a doozy. Now its a cool 60 degrees and breezy. Its almost like I am getting to work outside! I am wearing a skirt and open toed sandals (Have I ever told you that I don't like my feet to feel closed in. I might have feet claustrophobia). I am also eating fresh fruit (of which we now have a grove on our kitchen counter).

Also, Glen finished painting our baby girls room last night (pictures coming soon!), and I think we are getting close (at least in the next couple of weeks) to choosing a name.

I am so thankful for all the blessings God has given me.
