a book for glen

Glen's father's day gift came in the mail yesterday. I got him a book. That's right, although Glen doesn't read, I got him a book. He told me about a book his co-worker got, and it sounded perfect for him.

The Baby Owner's Manual

This book is written by a Doctor and his son, gets right to the point, and seems to be geared towards guys(especially the engineering type). I have flipped through it, and it is quite entertaining. The language is humorous. I just hope it contains some helpful tips too!

36 weeks and counting

4 weeks left. I am ready. My feet hurt, and I have heartburn. Heartburn is aweful. I am so sorry for those who have it on a regular basis. I am glad that this is just a pregnancy symptom, and the end is in sight. Our house is clean (for the most part) and I am planning to *try* to keep it organized for the next month so that if Emma Taylor decides to jump the bandwagon and come early that we will be able to come back to a clean and organized house. This week I will pack hospital bags and make all my lists (i.e. important phone numbers for the hospital and how to take care of Abby while we are gone). It seems real but I still cannot get a handle on what it is going to be like after we bring our little girl home. I guess nothing can prepare me short of it actually happening!

Emma Taylor's room is finished! The last thing to finish was her changing table area. Glen repainted the changing table that we had gotten free from a daycare that was going out of business. It was black initially! I got both the boxes/baskets on the shelf and the hanging wall flowers at Hobby Lobby. Despite the weird shadows in the picture that the flowers make (it looks better in person), I really love how it turned out! Glen is not sold on the dark brown changing pad cover so I am still on the lookout for another....white maybe?

34 weeks

6 weeks until emma taylor's due date.

3 weeks until I am technically full term.

I bought her stroller this past weekend.

I can't wait to put her car seat in the car.

Does that make me a dork?

I still really want this play mat.

I have washed almost all her clothes/linens.

Her room is coming together.

I think I've got most everyone calling her Emma Taylor (not just Emma).

I'd be lying if I didn't say that I am feeling tired, big, and hot.

My feet are swelling and I have to wear flip flops to work.

I am already planning to try some wives tales/labor inducing techniques once I am done with work on June 30th!

the last shower

I had my last baby shower this past weekend, and I forgot my camera. I realized after someone else had mentioned that the left their camera at home that I didn't even think to bring mine. What is wrong with me? Pregnancy/mommy memory maybe? Who knows!

Anyways, I had a blast with all who could come and was overwhelmed by the generosity of my friends! Thanks for everything. Emma Taylor is going to love all her stuff!

pregnancy happenings

1. We finished our hospital (preparation for birth) class this past Monday. We are now apparently ready to have Emma Taylor.

2. We are less than 7 weeks from our due date.

3. We have all our necessities (crib, car seat, ect.) and a ton of clothes!

4. The girl at chickfila told me (as she was handing me my DECAF coffee) that I shouldn't be drinking coffee. It's bad for the baby...

5. I officially got a handicap sticker so I can park next to my building at work.

6. Its blazing hot outside and its not even June. I thought I wouldn't be dying of heat until a little later.

7. I officially feel enormous.

Oh baby!

I am very excited about this weekend! I have my last baby shower which means we can really start getting together all we need for the nursery, and I think it will be a super fun one!

Also, we are going to an event put on by the Palmetto Health Hospitals called Oh Baby. It's for new or expectant moms. Both Glen and I will attend the Baby 101 seminar, and I will get to go to the Breastfeeding Basics seminar (I am not dragging Glen to that one). I also found out that our potential pediatricians office will be there as one of the Venders! I am glad that we can go meet them and not have to make a separate appointment for that (I already go to enough appointments as is). They have chances for you to win stuff if you register with them, and the best part is the whole thing is FREE! So whether the seminars are helpful or not (although I think they will be) we won't waste any money on it!

Things are coming along, and I am truly starting to count down until we get to meet our little girl!

32 weeks

Only 8 weeks left...hopefully. I had a doctors appointment today, and it went well. She is positioned correctly and should likely stay like that until born. The doctor also estimated that she weighed around 3 1/2 lbs and she should gain close to 3 more lbs by my due date. Oh my! She already feels big enough as is. I can't imagine how she is going to fit by the end.

For the most part, I am feeling good. I am still keeping active by walking Abby almost everyday and still walking from my way too far away parking lot for work. I am starting to feel a little more tired (like what I felt the first trimester) and am feeling a bit sick at night when Emma Taylor refuses to take a break from moving.

This past Wednesday Glen and I had some awesome ladies throw me a youth shower during our usual youth group time. The food was awesome, and the company was great. Thanks for all the hard work you all put into it.

30 weeks + i passed!

30 weeks! Only 10 to go. I am gearing up for a few busy weekends coming up in May including a Charleston day trip with our youth and the rest being centered around Emma Taylor. Then comes June when I hope all we have to do is rest at home and finish getting ready for baby girl's arrival.

As of late, I am feeling great! At my most recent doctor's appointment everything was on track. Even my blood pressure was better than it has ever been. I had failed the 1 hour glucose test and had to take the 3 hour one yesterday. I am so glad to report that I passed it with flying colors! That's great news because it was miserable. Now I can eat some dessert again and not be afraid of my blood sugar levels.

glider 2.0

So that glider we got a few weeks back at the yard sale has been sitting unfinished in Emma Taylor's room until now. I had a hard time deciding what exactly to do with it. We decided not to buy replacement cushions which would have been over $100 and decided to make it our own (meaning a little untraditional). Here is a kind of before picture. I didn't get the whole glider before I started recovering...

I am pretty sure every old glider has this same blue fabric on it. Its not really my style. So we found a seat cushion to replace the back cushion. It looks a little small comparing it to the old cushion, but it is surprisingly comfortable. I recovered the bottom cushion and the foot stool with fabric from Hobby Lobby. We have a second floral back cusion but it doesn't exactly match anything else in the room so I think we will stick with solid green.

This next picture shows the colors a little better and all the other baby stuff we are accumulating!

Our original plan was to stain the wood on the glider to match the crib but I think that project will have to wait until the next time around!

28 weeks + the 3rd trimester

I can't believe I am in the 3rd trimester already. Only 12 weeks left! I used to think that I wouldn't want to make it all the way to my due date, but at this point I would like Emma Taylor to be cooking in there the full 40 weeks. I am sure when we are nearing that time I might change my mind, but it seems like it is coming so fast.

I officially feel big. I am not uncomfortable except when she turns and gets into my rib space but I do feel big. According to the What To Expect emails I have been receiving she probably weighs 2.5 lbs and will be gaining 2 more lbs. in the next month. That is almost doubling in size! So ask me in a month how I feel. I assume it might change from feeling big to enormous.

After much looking for glider cushion replacements and a few returns after hasty decisions. We found a nontradional cushion for the back and I sewed a cover for the existing cushion on the seat. It was square so I didn't feel like it would be too much trouble. Now all we have to do is recover the foot stool and we are ready to glide...

Lastly, I can't get enough burgers! Maybe its the protein (because I don't think I eat enough of that) or the iron in the red meat, but they just make me feel better. So in honor of Glen's return from FL on a business trip we are grilling burgers and baking sweet potato fries!

Sneak Peak

Here's a sneak peak to the art we are painting to go in Emma Taylor's room. We only bought one canvas to start off with because we didn't want to risk not liking the first one and being stuck with 2 others. I love it so far so now we just have to wait for some more 40 % off coupons or a sale to get the other two.

26 weeks + less than 3 months work

I am 26 weeks! I feel like I grew a ton last week and now really feel like I am getting more pregnant and less baby bump (if that makes any sense). I have turned in my last day request (June30) and now officially have less than 3 months left at work. It's kind of a weird feeling. I know it will be an adjustment, but I am so excited that I have the opportunity to stay home with Emma Taylor.

We are on our way to decorating Emma Taylor's room and fixing all the freebie stuff that we got so it is ready. Glen started painting her changing table (which was black) white and hopefully will be done this week. I got the art supplies to start painting the art work we are putting on her wall. Hopefully those will turn out well! We will post pictures when we finish.

We are also attempting to plan our last weekend getaway/vacation before Emma Taylor comes. Hopefully all the details will work out, and we will have a relaxing weekend at the beach. If not, a day trip will have to do.

We have a name! I am so excited, and it is becoming all the more real now that she is no longer just baby girl! We have less than 4 months left, and we can't wait to meet....

24 weeks + pollen is killing me

I was feeling good until this past Monday night and allergies took over. Its a bad combination to drink lots of fluids to help wash out all the effects this pollen brings on and to be pregnant and have to pee a million times a day anyways. I have tried to be medicine free pretty much this entire pregnancy, but I figure if it comes down to either taking medicine or being miserable and not sleeping, I'll take the medicine. Here's for hoping it helps!

Besides allergies, I'm feeling great. I feel like I am getting bigger by the second which is cool because I can feel baby girl so much more now but I know at some point I will want to go back in the other direction. Glen has finally felt her move now too, and when she is kicking really strong you can see my stomach move!

I already finished registering. Although there will be no showers until May, I wanted to go ahead and get that part finished! It was a bit overwhelming! There is so much stuff you could buy for a baby. I know so much of it you won't need, but we are new to this. We really have no clue. So Glen and I made decisions on all the big stuff and decorating type stuff, and then I took a mom friend with me to help with all the "technical" stuff. She was so helpful. Thanks Shari!

14 weeks, 18 weeks, 19 weeks, 21 weeks, 22 weeks

22 weeks + crib

So last week I posted about how great I was feeling. Then came the weekend. Friday afternoon I did something to my back {pulled a muscle, injured a nerve, not really sure what}. So pretty much all weekend I layed on the couch doing nothing. Although what I really wanted to do was go look at baby stuff for Baby Girl Scogin. I am glad to report that I am feeling much better and just have the minor pregnancy aches that are to be expected. So here we are at 22 weeks...getting much bigger in my opinion. I am not sure that I will keep up the weekly picture and update because let's be honest a picture of me every week with slightly the same size belly isn't super exciting, but I wanted to post this week to say a BIG THANKS to our friends Bridget and David for letting us use their crib. We put it together tonight and now I feel like the room is turning into a nursery!

Reality sets in

I am not sure why reality is just setting in. We signed up for a Childbirth Preparation Class at the hospital, checked out 4 baby books at the library, and received our first baby presents from my mom. Honestly the kicker was the baby clothes. It's crazy to think our baby will be so tiny and that we are responsible for that little life. I will be dressing our little girl in these clothes in just a little over 4 months! It can be a little overwhelming, but I know with support from each other and our trust that God is taking care of us and that He is in control that we will be okay.
