We're done!

We Glen and some really awesome friends finished laying the hardwood floors this past weekend. We cut it pretty close with having just enough wood to finish the closet. As you can see in the picture below, we had one short row left and no longer boards. We pulled together some scraps and made it work. Luckily, this last row was in the back of the closet.

Now we can finally get our house back to its normal state. The downside now is I have a lot of cleaning to do. Next on the house repair/upgrade list is painting. However, I think we might take a little break before we start that process!

Buffalo Chicken Calzones...kind of

Last night I made calzones for the first time. I decided on Buffalo Chicken, not your regular calzone, simply because I plan to make Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese later this week and had all the ingredients. I guess I am on a buffalo chicken kick. I used regular pizza dough and stuffed it with mozzarella cheese, shredded chicken, and buffalo wing sauce with ranch for the dipping sauce. I read directions on how to make a calzone and then proceeded not to follow them. Although it turned out tasting good (other than I loaded on a bit too much buffalo sauce), it looked like this...

I guess that teaches me that I really need to follow directions...

Abby + dog park

We Abby loves going to the dog park. We used to go to the dog park in Sesquicentennial State Park, but its at least a thirty minute drive. We now have a dog park that is only 1 and 1/2 miles from our house! I can walk there! Our application was processed and we are now official members of the NOMA Dog Park. Abby and I went to check it out yesterday. There were a few dogs for a while, but mainly Abby enjoyed playing frisbee and jumping in large mud puddles when I told her not too. I can't wait to go back this Saturday when there are hopefully a ton of dogs for her to play with!

Grape-Nut Cookies

I love grapenuts cereal. I might be 1 of 5 that actually like them. I found the following recipe in my first Real Simple magazines (a Christmas present)! I of course had to try them. My only alteration in the recipe was to add chocolate chips. They turned out to be a twist on oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. I think they turned out really well!

Grape-Nut Cookies

1/2 cup softened butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 Tbs. honey
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
2 cups rolled oats
1 cup flour
1 cup grapenuts cereal
chocolate chips

Bake for 10-14 minutes at 350 degrees.

Afternoon snack + baby

I'm not a big fan of milk, so this afternoon I washed it down with a lovely chocolate cupcake! I thought it was a fair treat after a good baby report from the doctor. It's still so weird to me that all they have done so far at each of my doctor's appointments is weigh me and listen to the heartbeat. I am so ready to see a picture of this baby. 5 weeks and counting until we get to find out what we are having!

Monday night

Monday night was spent agonizing over paint colors due to a sale at Home Depot that ended Monday night. We got our paint. Hopefully we chose the right color.

I have a problem...

I can't resist sour patch kids, and I keep buying more everytime I go to the grocery store. You know you have a problem when you burn, yes burn, your tongue with sour patch kids and then continue to eat more. I might not have any taste buds left by the end of this pregnancy.

Week 36

Wood Floors

I can't even explain my hatred towards carpet. It always seems dirty. My allergies are certainly exacerbated by carpet. Not to mention our pet's fur would pretty much get engrained in it, and without a specialty pet vaccuum which we do not have I dont think we would ever get it completely clean. This weekend was the first step in Operation Replace Carpet! We had some really awesome friends come over and help put the floor down so no labor costs! Thanks guys!

Tonight we are going to get paint...so no more green room! I am very excited. The baby is going to have a really fun room!

Things learned

Sometimes at Glen and my small group, the leader will ask a question. Many times that question has been "What did you learn last week?". So for this week here's my answer...

-If there is threat of snow and you don't have sufficient groceries go even though you will be caught in a crowd of crazy people scrambling for eggs, bread, and milk. Otherwise, if said snow does come it will prevent anything from happening in the entire southeast (including delivery trucks), and you will go to the store as soon as you can and there will literally be no groceries left.

-Don't leave your ice/snow scraper in the trunk. Your trunk will get frozen shut.

-Don't walk on icy sidewalks even if you are being super careful. You will fall.

-Buy a belly band before you think you need it or otherwise you will be sorry when that baby belly pops out.

-Eat a hearty breakfast (meaning eggs or some kind of protein) or you will feel like you are going to pass out at work.

-Popcorn is NOT a sufficient snack at work when you are hungry.

-Don't try to pick up anything of size while you are pregnant. You will pull a muscle.

The end.

Back to work

I can't believe we had snow bad enough for me to miss work 2 days in a row. I didn't leave the house either day, and the second I never even ventured out except to retrieve the mail. It was just to cold and icy! Today I am back at work (although 2 hour delay) and so excited.

On another note- I almost fell 3 times from my car to my workplace. Those parking lots are treacherous. Watch out or they will get you...

Week 35

14 weeks + snow

I'm 14 weeks! I wasn't planning on taking any "pregancy" pictures till later, but then it snowed. I really thought it would be fun for my first picture to be with snow in the back ground. Although I think that this picture makes me look more pregnant than I think I actually look, my pudge is slowly turning into more of a pregnant belly.

Abby & the snow

Abby LOVES playing in the snow! She would stay out all day if we would let her, but its too cold. I think her favorite thing is playing fetch in the snow. We would throw the ball and she would go diving into the snow to retrieve it.

I shot a little video of her in the snow. In the first half of the video she's the little black thing running at the back of the yard. I couldn't figure out how to rotate the video so its sideways. Sorry. If anyone knows how to fix that let me know!

Snow Day

Are we still in SC? I am seriously doubtful. I can't believe it snowed at Christmas and then just a few weeks later snowed again. We got 6 inches by the end of the day so of course everything was closed, and we got to stay home and play in the snow. My office is closed again today, but Glen is making the trek to work.

A little CVS excitement...

I was super excited about the CVS ad for this week! Since I have given up caffeine my drink choices have been limited. Even though before I was pregnant I pretty much stuck to just coffee and water, now that I can't have certain things makes me want them even more. This is what I got this week...all for $4!

16 Izzes (this will last me awhile)
8 Starbucks Frappaccinos (I might have a sip when Glen drinks these)
2 packs of Altoids

P.S. I also left CVS with 10 ECBs. A pretty good week if I do say so myself.

Saturday Morning

Saturday morning we didn't have to cook any breakfast because we got FREE spicy chicken biscuits from Chickfila and FREE decaf coffee for me from Dunkin Donuts (thankfully they are practically next to each other). We Glen needed a filling breakfast because he started preparing (moving furniture and ripping up carpet) our rooms for hardwood installation!

Jambalaya-ish

I can't say that I have ever made jambalaya, and after last night I probably still can't say I have made jambalaya, just something jambalaya-ish.

Brown rice topped with tomatos, onions, green peppers, celery, garlic, chicken sausage and seasoned with worsteshire and hot sauce.

Back to the old grind

I am officially back to work after having a 2 weeks off. My break was good. I got last minute Christmas shopping done, went on lunch dates with Glen, celebrated a stress free Christmas and New Years, bought new flooring, and laid around watching Heroes. I am glad to be back, glad to have a routine, glad to be making money again.

Also, today I woke up feeling like myself. After I found out I was pregnant I wondered if I would feel like myself again before this baby was born. I was doubtful, but it happened (at least today). Maybe this means I will get my dinner time appetite back or that I won't be going to bed regularly at 9:00. Welcome 2011. You've been good to me so far!

Belated Friday Confessions: I ate a big mac or 2

Friday Confessions was supposed to expire in 2010, but I missed last week due to our little trip up to Greenville and Hendersonville. So I will leave you with one last one...

I'm pregnant. It does weird things to you. I was sick for a couple of weeks, all day long. That changed a bit to just being sick afternoons and nights. That got even less to just nights, and now I think I am done with being sick or at least I am crossing my fingers. Those weeks I was sick all day I had NO appetite. It was hard to find anything that I would eat. Then when it got less and less I had weird cravings. You have to understand that Glen and I do NOT eat McDonalds. EVER. However, I wanted a big mac. So I got one and though it was tasty as I was consuming it, I felt so sick afterwards. Then the next week I got another. What is wrong with me?

That whole McDonalds thing was short lived, but I am wandering what my next craving will be and if I will give in.
