Dog days of summer

Abby and I have been running in the heat of the afternoon. Today Abby was rewarded with her pool. I, however, do not have a pool my size.

Extreme Couponing 101 and the $50 challenge

On Monday I went to the Extreme Couponing 101 class/seminar with Jenny from Southern Savers. It was very helpful. Not only was she very funny, she was very insightful, obviously. I was one of probably 3 women under the age of 50 but at least being one of 3 is better than being 1 of only 2 guys. Poor guys. You could tell they did not want to be there, but I applaud the effort of supporting their wives who inevitably made them go. Anyways, I learn by listening or doing. Although I did get a handbook that I could go home and read...no surprise here...I haven't read it. But I feel good about this whole couponing thing, like I can conquer the world....or maybe just Publix. So if you are trying to get into couponing I highly recommend going to one of these classes! You can find the classes on the Southern Savers website and it only costs $10.

I learned that in couponing you must set a goal. I really don't know what other people spend on groceries/household items per month, but I do know that Glen and I spend too much. So I am setting a $50 per week limit. I am also using the envelope method so ensure I will not spend more. Every 4 weeks I will take $200 out of the bank and put it in an envelope. All of my grocery/household purchases will come out of that envelope so when I run out, I'm out. No excuses.

First week of shopping- $49.42. right on the money....

On a roll

Okay. This is my last or hopefully second to last post about our trivia. We won last week at a new venue with little challenge from competitors. Tonight we played at Mellow Mushroom because our fellow trivia team members, Chris and Amber, are about to move to NC and tonight was the last time both of them could play. After being in 6th place out of 9 after the 2nd of 3 rounds, we came back. We wagered all of our points on the last question and it paid off. We won by 26 points! Our prize- $50 gift certificate (we have a lot of pizza to eat)! Tomorrow we will play at Harper's (without Amber) for what I like to think of as our championship round. Wish us luck!

Baking Challenge: Coffee Toffee Bars

A new exciting adventure (maybe challenge) has come upon me. A baking adventure that is. My friend, Leah, and I have decided to get together on a semi-regular basis to bake and cook but mostly bake. I am so excited about this. Why? Because its more fun to bake with someone else and less sweets to eat afterwards which means I don't have to run an extra 10 miles to work off all that goodness.

Baking Challenge: Coffee Toffee Bars
Recipe Source: Tasty Kitchen
Outcome: Good dessert. Will go well with icecream. Will not give up classic chocolate chip cookies.

Mother/Daughter Beach Trip

Saturday I had the privilege of going on the day trip to Charleston for the junior high girls and their moms. This is the 2nd year that we have done a day trip to the beach, and we had a great turn out. Overall we had 27 people come! We spent the morning and early afternoon lying on the beach, playing football, and taking walks. We then headed downtown to quickly look through the market and then headed to dinner at Hyman's. Luckily the restaurant accomidated us and we got to sit at tables right next to each other. After a long day of fun and sun with the evidence in the form of sunburn all over our faces we headed home wishing we could stay another day at the beach.

Silly girls.

Sorry no pics of me...I was the photographer.

Cupcake Date

Friday night Glen and I went on a mini date to go get cupcakes. There is a cute place downtown town that sells delicious cupcakes. They might be a bit pricey but we can handle getting two. The place is really cute. There's pink everywhere which is just my style. During Christmas they even had pink trees and I have the same one for my house! They change flavors everyday. So we tried red velvet and key lime pie. I will stick to making my own cupcakes but every once in a while its fun to go get one of these...especially when you have a buy 11 get one free!
