cheese

this morning i told emma taylor to say cheese and she promptly took direction smiled and repeated her own version of the word cheese. this might make taking pictures a tad easier! also, i never thought i would willingly put my child in a tutu, but she loves it and looks pretty darn cute in it.

16 months

emma taylor turned 16 months this week. this post is late because i totally forgot that she turned 16 months. how sad. oh well. she pretty much looks the same today as she did a few days ago.

this month emma taylor started walking! she took off 2 days before she had her appointment with the orthopaedic dr.(everything is fine by the way). what timing! she also seemed to take off in terms of language. she still spurts out strings of nonsense (although i am pretty sure she thinks she is saying something that means something). she is really into animals. we have gone to the zoo several times and she gets so excited to be there. she knows many animal sounds and laughs when she sees a funny looking one. she has also been saying momma nonstop. like every 2 seconds for 10 minute stretches. it kind of takes the charm out of hearing her say it. she is still working on getting her top canines in and seems like she's been teething now for 2 months! she still loves books, loves to snuggle, and loves balls. well, emma taylor, we love you!

vista lights

last year i had to go to vista lights (a celebration downtown where they light the christmas tree)without glen. this year he got to go. we watched them light the tree which was a bit of a let down, but e.t. seemed to like it. we got some free shrimp and grit and shared some food truck bbq. and we ran into a surprising amount of people we knew.

also it was so cold. here we are all bundled up...

a thankful tree

i so stole this idea from my sister-in-law...thanks h! i had been thinking what a great idea, and how fun this will be when emma taylor is a little older. then i thought, why not start this tradition now? glen and i need to be more thankful and this excercise helps us do that. plus we already had all the materials laying around. we started a little late but our goal is to add at least one leaf (which lists what we are thankful for) every day of november. feel free to steal this idea...i did.

homemade vanilla

this summer i ordered some vanilla beans through my friend's coop. add some old leftover vodka. let it sit for a couple months, and you've got the most delicious smelling vanilla ever. it was super easy! we will be doing these for gifts next year!

a simple activity

a friend of mine told me that she started collecting milk caps for her son to play with. the idea was that he could put them in an old wipe container then open it up and get them out. so i started collecting some caps for emma taylor, and it is amazing how a simple activity can entertain for so long. an added bonus...you don't have to buy anything. you just use what you have. i recycled an old sanitizing wipe container to hold the caps, and she has been entertained all day!

feeding herself

e.t. has pretty much not let us spoon feed her since 11 months (besides yogurt and the occassional applesauce). so we are forced to do all finger foods. i have been reluctantly letting her feed herself with a spoon, but oh the mess. i guess it's got to happen sometime.

wish list

is it too early for tay to be looking throught the latest toms catalogue trying to decide which pair she wants next. yes...i think so, but this girl has a thing about catalogues!

ortho appt. update

on emma taylor's 15 month stats post i shared that we were going to an orthopedic dr. to check out e.t.'s legs. we went to that appointment yesterday and the dr. said everything was fine. nothing is wrong with her leg alignment and her turned out feet should correct themselves as she practices walking. so thankful for this news!

trunk or treat

on halloween e.t. and i went to church to participate in trunk or treat. we decorated our trunk with a beanie baby theme, and our friends jessica and patrick (the cute little lion) joined us. most of the kids didn't know what beanie babies were (that makes me feel old) and then some of them asked if they got to pick one to take home (ummm...no). overall it was fun but i can't wait till next year when e.t. can participate. i did give emma taylor a sucker as a bribe to sit still and yall, i think she is hooked!
